HE Science Foundation
The HE Science Foundation is a non-profit fund established by Mr. He Xiangjian, the founder of Midea Group. It was officially launched on May 21, 2023, at the opening ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Forum.
With the aim of sustainable development and independent operation, it contributes to scientific progress and economic prosperity.
The foundation was established with a personal contribution of 3 billion Chinese yuan (RMB) by Mr. He Xiangjian and is operated by Guangdong Meize Technology Development Co., Ltd.
The vision of the foundation is to promote global scientific progress and technological innovation, and to make its due contribution to the development of human civilization.
The mission of the foundation is to provide more technological solutions for the future development and challenges of the earth, support basic research, original technological breakthroughs and medium- to long-term research;
promote international scientific research cooperation, collaborate with world-leading scientific institutions and researchers to achieve new scientific breakthroughs;
support the cultivation and development of young scientists and researchers, provide more opportunities for exploration, and help them become future scientific leaders.
The foundation focuses on innovative, forward-looking and important research projects, with a particular emphasis on areas that have a significant impact on the world economy and human civilization, including but not limited to medical and life sciences, green energy and climate change. Through specific initiatives such as the He Research Fellowship, the foundation continuously promotes the development of new technologies, benefiting human society.
FOUNDER
Mr. He Xiangjian was born in Shunde, Guangdong in 1942.
In 1968, Mr. He led 23 local residents of Beijiao, Shunde and started a business with RMB 5,000 raised. Mr. He knows well the importance of science and technology in improving human happiness. He has always valued scientific and technological talents and respected the spirit of scientists. Today, Midea Group has grown into a Fortune Global 500 technology group with about 190,000 employees worldwide.
Mr. He was awarded the "Pioneer of Reform" medal. After passing the mantle of the company's leadership to a professional management team, Mr. He embarked on a new journey of giving back to society, the country and the local community, devoting his main energy to philanthropy: investing 100 million Midea shares and RMB 2 billion in cash to establish the Guangdong He Foundation, RMB 10 billion to build the non-profit Heyou International Hospital, and establishing a sustainable "charitable trust + foundation" framework for charities.
The philanthropic work of Mr. He, the He Foundation and Midea Holding Co., Ltd. has developed rapidly. Mr. He has been on the Hurun China Philanthropy List for 15 consecutive years and has received honorable titles such as the "Contributor to National Poverty Alleviation", "National Model Worker" and "Chinese Charity Award". Mr. He firmly believes in the importance of scientific and technological innovation to social development and is committed to "creating a better life for mankind". This is also the original intention of establishing the He Science Foundation: to encourage and commend top scientists and scientific research projects that pursue scientific heights and promote major social progress, and to achieve sustainable and independent development through the He Science Foundation.
Through charity, donation, funding and public welfare, Mr. He has repeatedly elevated the connotation of the entrepreneurial spirit of "patriotism and mission". The He Science Foundation is not only the inheritance of this entrepreneurial spirit, but also a further enrichment and sublimation of it.
