HE Research Fellowship: Second Cohort Grant Recipients Officially Announced
September 15, 2026 — The grant recipient list for the second cohort of the HE Research Fellowship has been officially released on the official website and WeChat Official Account of the HE Science Foundation. A total of 20 young scientists have been selected this time, 11 in the field of Medical and Life Science and 9 in Energy, Environment and Climate Change. Each selected scientist will receive a research grant of RMB 2 million, disbursed over three years to support their innovative research.
The HE Science Foundation is a non‑profit foundation established in May 2023 with a personal endowment of RMB 3 billion from Mr. He Xiangjian, founder of Midea Group. As one of the foundation’s key programmes, the HE Research Fellowship focuses on two fields: Medical and Life Science, and Energy, Environment and Climate Change. It is committed to supporting outstanding young research talents and facilitating original scientific exploration.
The second cohort adopts institutional nomination. Candidates underwent multiple rigorous selection procedures, including administrative review by the secretariat, peer review and final adjudication by the review committee. The entire selection process abides by the principles of objectivity, fairness and impartiality.
Compared with the first cohort, the selection of this cohort features distinct characteristics. It places greater emphasis on supporting researchers in the early stage of their careers, and the selected group is generally younger. More outstanding female scientists have emerged. While encouraging cutting‑edge scientific exploration, the review orientation further strengthens application and translation, paying more attention to the potential of research to drive the implementation of outcomes.
